Troubleshooting
Common issues and how to fix them.
Scan finds far fewer devices than expected
Almost always a privilege issue. Without Administrator/root, ARP scanning is unavailable and the tool falls back to a ping sweep — any host that blocks ICMP echo (many phones, some IoT devices) will be invisible. Re-run elevated.
Devices show as "Unknown Device" or with a generic name
The classifier had no strong signal to work with — no open signature ports, no vendor match, and mDNS/hostname resolution came back empty. Run a Deep Scan on the host; SNMP or UPnP often surfaces a manufacturer string that a quick scan misses.
mDNS toggle finds nothing
Some routers and managed switches block multicast (224.0.0.251) between VLANs or Wi-Fi/Ethernet segments — this is a network-level restriction the scanner can't work around. Confirm the scanning machine and target devices share an L2 segment.
Deep scan is slow on a large subnet
Expected — a full port sweep per host is inherently heavier than the quick scan's signature-port probe. Prefer Deep (Selected) for targeted investigation, and reserve Deep Scan All for smaller subnets or off-hours audits.
